iOS 26 support broken - Unable to locate DeviceSupport directory with suffix 'DeveloperDiskImage.dmg' #608

Open

Description

@rasikrodri

iOS 26 no longer ships DeveloperDiskImage.dmg - it uses DDI-only format.

Error:
Unable to locate DeviceSupport directory with suffix 'DeveloperDiskImage.dmg'

Setup:

  • macOS 26.4 (25E246)
  • iOS 26.4 (25E246)
  • Xcode 26.4
  • ios-deploy 1.12.2 (HEAD-83f7d9e)

Workaround suggested by cordova-ios team:
Using xcrun devicectl works instead:
xcrun devicectl device install app --device ""
xcrun devicectl device process launch --device "" --terminate-existing

Please consider replacing ios-deploy's DeveloperDiskImage dependency
with xcrun devicectl for iOS 26+ compatibility.

    @petercutting

    trying to install my Cordova app on an iPhone

    I have just run into this error. the xcrun suggestion just gives a bunch of errors. see below

    is there no other solution? can I downgrade Xcode or iOS maybe?

    Xcode 26.5
    iOS 26.3

    xcrun devicectl device install app --device ""
    Error: Missing expected argument ''
    Help: The path to the application to be installed on the device
    Usage: devicectl device install app --device <uuid|ecid|serial_number|udid|name|dns_name> [--filter ] [--sort-by ] [--columns ...] [--hide-default-columns] [--hide-headers] [--verbose] [--quiet] [--timeout ] [--json-output ] [--log-output ]
    See 'devicectl device install app --help' for more information.
