Alternatives with a hyphenated genus or without any genus are still read as name and author #228
Two shapes of alternatives that #225 and #212 do not reach yet, found by replaying GBIF occurrence names against COL26.6 XR (315557) with build 0.4.1-20261102.000711-32. The epithet after the slash is still read as an author.
Input
Current
Expected
Pseudo-nitzschia pungens/multiseries
species Pseudo-nitzschia pungens, author multiseries
INFORMAL, genus Pseudo-nitzschia, phrase pungens/multiseries, as #225
INFORMAL, genus Saint-Hilaireia, phrase rubra/alba
obsoletus/scoticus
uninomial Obsoletus, author scoticus
unparsable OTHER, no name to anchor on
Hyphenated genus. The same names without the hyphen work, Culicoides obsoletus/scoticus is INFORMAL with genus Culicoides, so the #225 rule seems not to accept a hyphen in the genus.
Only epithets. A lower case word is capitalised into a uninomial, although nothing in obsoletus/scoticus is a genus. A bare obsoletus is already a placeholder. Related to Belaustium/microsmaris listed under "Left as they are" in #226, which has a real genus in front.
Impact. In names with at least 1,000 occurrences:
Pseudo-nitzschia pungens/multiseries and Pseudo-nitzschia fraudulenta/australis, 5,405 occurrences, match the first species as if it were the identification.
obsoletus/scoticus, 104,265 occurrences of a Culicoides species complex in family Ceratopogonidae, matches the mosquito subgenus Aedes (obsoletus). It would reach its family with no uninomial to match.
