The weekly run walks 146 published models — 30 ASR, 2 streaming, 114 TTS —
inside a single test, so the first failure ends it. That is how
this run
reported ValueError: Unknown initialization: chainer on jv_openslr35 and
nothing else: the models after it in the walk had not been checked since the
day that one broke, and the report gave no way to tell whether it was alone or
one of forty.

Each model is a test of its own now:

test_model[asr-jv_openslr35]
test_model[tts-kan-bayashi/ljspeech_vits]
…

so a run names every model that broke and leaves the rest green. The list is
read from table.csv at collection, so a model added there is covered without
touching this file, and -k selects one by name when you are chasing it:

$ pytest ci/test_model.py -k jv_openslr35
1 passed, 145 deselected

The download cache is emptied after each model rather than after each corpus —
the same idea with a finer broom, and the runner has less disk than the models
have weight (verified: downloads/ is 0 B when a run ends).

Expect longer runs. Stopping at the first failure is the only reason 23
minutes was ever enough for 146 models.

The failure that prompted this

init: chainer was one of six documented choices until espnet removed it in
June (espnet/espnet@9e9897a4703). It is a training setting — loading a
trained model fills the parameters from the checkpoint — but build_model
applies it anyway, so every model published with it became unloadable.
espnet/espnet#6782 fixes that there; with it, jv_openslr35 loads and decodes
again, which is what the two runs above show.

🤖 Generated with Claude Code

The weekly run walked 146 published models inside one test, so the first
failure ended it: `init: chainer` stopped loading when espnet removed that
choice in June, the run said so in September, and nothing in the report said
whether that model was alone or one of forty. The models after it in the walk
had not been checked since the day it broke.

Each model is a test of its own now - `test_model[asr-jv_openslr35]` - so a
run names every model that broke and leaves the rest green. The list is read
from table.csv at collection, so a model added there is covered without
touching this file, and `-k` selects one by name when you are chasing it.

The cache is emptied after each model rather than after each corpus: same
idea, finer broom, and the runner has less disk than the models have weight.

Expect longer runs. The old one stopped at the first failure, which is the
only reason 23 minutes was ever enough.

📝 Walkthrough

Walkthrough

The model test now uses pytest parametrization. _published() queries published models and skips entries with valid == "false". LOAD maps task names to loader functions. Each model runs as a separate test case. The cache fixture manages the shared download directory and cleans it after each test. Loader functions use the centralized CACHE constant.

CI can silently lose visibility into excluded models and run its first model against stale downloads. Report invalid models as skipped and clear the cache before the first case.

Report excluded models as skipped tests.

This continue removes valid == "false" models from collection with no pytest result. CI cannot show which models were excluded, and a table change can silently reduce coverage. Yield a pytest.param marked skipped with a reason instead.

Clear the cache before the test starts.

The fixture only removes CACHE after yield. The first model can reuse downloads from an earlier run, while later models start with an empty cache. Remove and recreate CACHE before yield as well.
