Summary

  • Bundle public workflow guides as offline, version-matched package resources.
  • Expose read-only documentation discovery via dp skills list and dp skills read <name> [relative-path].
  • Integrate relevant guide pointers into CLI help and retain existing CLI behavior.
  • Add packaging support and regression tests for resource lookup, safe reading, and help output.

Documentation

  • Document the new commands in the existing dedicated reference: doc/agent-skills.md.
  • Keep the main README.md unchanged relative to upstream; use the existing docs navigation instead.
  • Distinguish reading installed guides from installing skills into an AI agent or executing workflows.

Validation

  • Added source/tests/common/test_skills.py and source/tests/common/test_skill_help.py.
  • Tests were reported completed before PR submission; no test rerun is claimed for the later documentation-only refinement.

Provenance

  • Original implementation: njzjz-bot:agent-dot/bundled-skills-cli-20261024.
  • PR opened and documentation placement refined by ChatGPT (GPT-6).
  • Documentation follow-up commits record the agent and model; no feature code was changed during documentation refinement.

Current installed-wheel verification

The Windows cibuildwheel override now includes dp skills list and dp skills read deepmd-train.

The Windows cp311 job for a6faf268 completed successfully. Its log shows the repaired, installed wheel executing both commands, listing six guides and printing the requested guide. Earlier macOS wheel logs also execute these commands.

Local source tests pass (11 tests and 12 subtests). An isolated sdist-to-wheel/install check outside the checkout verifies all 18 bundled files and backend-independent CLI paths. The remaining full hosted jobs must finish separately.

  • Documentation
    • Documented how to browse bundled guides and read referenced files offline.

Walkthrough

The CLI now lists and reads bundled workflow guides offline. Source distributions and wheels include the guide files. Root and training help provide guide pointers.

Changes: Offline workflow guide access

Layer / File(s) Summary
Guide discovery and reading
deepmd/skills.py, pyproject.toml, source/tests/common/test_skills.py, doc/agent-skills.md
The skills commands list guides and read a guide or relative reference file. Reading validates names and paths, rejects directory escapes, and reports read errors. Packaging includes the skills directory. Tests and documentation cover guide access.
CLI integration and help
deepmd/main.py, deepmd/skills.py, source/tests/common/test_skill_help.py
The main CLI registers and dispatches skills commands, skips log-level conversion for them, and adds guide pointers to root and training help. Tests cover help output and guide lookup.

Explanation

The title names the two main changes: bundling workflow guides as package resources and exposing the read-only dp skills commands offline. The raw summary confirms the changeset adds deepmd/skills.py, dp skills list and dp skills read commands, packaging changes in pyproject.toml, and related tests and docs. The title is specific and matches the primary change.

Reviewed the offline skills CLI and packaging changes at 233ce34. Targeted CLI and unit tests pass, and required CI checks are green. I found no blocking correctness or compatibility issue. Non-blocking: add an installed-wheel smoke test for the bundled resources.

Comment thread pyproject.toml Resolved
The Windows cibuildwheel test-command overrides the generic commands, so
include skills list/read there as well.

Validation: 11 source tests plus 12 subtests passed; an sdist-built wheel
installed outside the checkout preserved all 18 guide files and passed
list/read, nested-file, invalid-path and backend-free CLI checks. Ruff 0.16
and whitespace checks passed. Windows execution remains for CI.
