Git.Status performance and fault tolerance

git status can sometimes have difficulties resolving the change path. When it does, it spews errors into $error. Additionally, by calling Get-Item per file, git status ends up being slower than ideal on codebases with a large number of active files (not that there's anything wrong with that). The file lookup for changed files should therefore be improved for performance and fault tolerance.
